    • New England--Oakland OVER 46

NORM'S LATE THOUGHTS: Again, most game have been addressed here from mine and other selections.  But I would like to echo support for one particular play---Cincinnati. Tennessee QB Jake Locker just doesn't appear to be the man to attack a truly solid defense like the Bengals. He was woeful last week in missing tons of wide open receivers against Dallas and he won't see nearly that many guys running free this Sunday. So let me suggest Cincy becomes a slightly stronger play in your minds than the above "Regular Strength" addition

Here are your consensus college football plays for Saturday, Sept. 20.

    VERY STRONG PLAYS: None

STRONG PLAYS: Colorado -7 1/2 Hawaii (Agrees with a pick of the Pole)

    REGULAR PLAYS:

    Missouri -13 1/2 Indiana
    Iowa +7 Pitt
    Ball St. +14 Toledo
    Georgia -41 Troy
    No. Carolina +2 1/2 E. Carolina
    Wyoming -3 1/2 Florida Atlantic
    No. Illinois +13 1/2 Arkansas
    Cincinnati -28 1/2 Miami Ohio
    Vanderbilt +21 1/2 So. Carolina

NORM'S LATE THOUGHTS: Lots of games on this board have already been handicapped by myself and others with their picks listed above. But the more I considered the very first game on the sheet the more attracted to it I became. Simply put, I believe Missouri will be a shootout. Indiana's very likely to be the victim of the shootout but the Hoosiers DO HAVE some decent offensive weapons and can score. But their porous defense can be torched for lots of points. So, when I pictured the way this game might go I had Indiana putting 24-28 points on the board and giving up a lot! That made the game for me an attractive OVER play. So:

    Take Missouri-Indiana OVER 71

Here are your late consensus picks for Thursday, Sept. 18:

    REGULAR STRENGTH PLAY:

    Kansas State +9 Auburn

By the way, had one of the handicappers I reference not taken the Wildcats in this game, my late thoughts would have made them a selection also. This SHOULD NOT be taken as a recommendation that this should then be considered a strong play---just that I also agreed that K State deserved to be a pick tonight.

    Sunday baseball record: 3-1-1....+$2.00....Season: $56.45

    KC -22 White Sox
    Houston +120 Cleveland

Here is your late consensus for Monday Night Football.

NORM'S LATE THOUGHTS: There are a handful of services that have stepped out in home favorite Indianapolis tonight. But I'm not about to join them. I believe these Colts have some fundamental flaws that are hard to get past when playing a good team (lack of a running game, lack of a pass rush, etc). In fact, as the weekend went on the feeling on Philly actually got stronger for me. So:

I'll stay with my original thought on Taking the Eagles plus a field goal and will add the suggestion that you might, if you haven't already gotten down, consider taking Philly EVENon the money line.

    September 14, 2014

    Saturday baseball record: 2-5....-$3.90......Season: -$58.45

    Milwaukee -165 Cincinnati
    Dodgers--Giants UNDER 6
    Toronto -120 Tampa Bay
    Minnesota +120 White Sox
    Oakland -150 Seattle

Here are your late consensus plays for the NFL on Sunday, Sept. 14:

    VERY STRONG PLAYS: None

STRONG PLAYS: New Orleans -6 1/2 Cleveland

    REGULAR PLAYS:

    Dallas +3 1/2 Tennessee
    Atlanta +5 1/2 Cincinnati
    San Diego +6 Seattle
    Green Bay -8 NY Jets
    Denver -12 1/2 KC

NORM'S LATE THOUGHTS: I actually have a pair of late games today (very unusual). There's no question that a key suspension and a key injury have weakened the Arizona defense. But they certainly didn't show it last week against San Diego. The Giants looked miserable in their new offense and this is NOT a defense to "get well" against. Cards have nice momentum going. Giants appear to have trouble on both sides of the ball.
    So:
Take Arizona -2 1/2 versus the Giants

Injuries on the defensive side of the ball have wrecked the San Fran "D" but their offense still looks pretty capable. Bears had some trouble stopping under-manned Buffalo last week and has been a poor defense ever since Lovie left town. So:

    Take San Francisco--Chicago OVER 48 1/2

    September 13, 2014

Here are your consensus late college football plays for Saturday, Sept. 13.

    VERY STRONG PLAYS: None

    STRONG PLAYS: Arizona -18 Nevada
    So. Alabama +13 Miss St.
    Georgia Southern +17 Georgia Tech
    Florida -18 Kentucky

    REGULAR PLAYS:

    E. Carolina +9 1/2 Virginia Tech
    Texas St. +9 1/2 Navy
    W. Kentucky +1 1/2 Middle Tennessee St.
    Washington -13 Illinois
    So. Carolina--Georgia UNDER 59 1/2
    Arkansas--Texas Tech UNDER 66 1/2

NORM'S LATE THOUGHTS---The Big Ten has stunk so far this season. especially troubling has been the trouble that conference has had against the MAC. But that may simply serve today to alert Indiana when it faces Bowling Green. When these two met last year it simply a slaughter. Indiana manhandled the BeeGees. Don't know why that should change today. BG is having terrible defensive problems so far and Indiana has the more dynamic of the offensive players in the game. So:

Take: Indiana -7 1/2 against Bowling Green

    Friday baseball record: 1-2....-$1.80....Season: -$54.55

    San Diego -120 Arizona
    San Fran +105 dodgers

    No Late Consensus Plays

NORM'S LATE THOUGHTS: The Thursday night card doesn't offer a great deal of appeal. Normally I'd have liked Baltimore in this situation but the whole mess involving Ray Rice has to have taken away some valuable preparation time in this short week. Perhaps they'll be able to focus but there's no such assurance. On the college card I have just one light opinions:

---North Texas has been dynamite at home under coach McCarney and now catches a La. Tech team in an odd and difficult situation already playing for the third time on the road in just 13 days. That's a huge task to ask of college kids who are just settling in for the fall semester. Lets lean to that home field advantage and against Tech's bizarre schedule and take the Mean Green as a light play.

Here are your late consensus plays for the NFL on Sunday, Sept. 7:

    VERY STRONG PLAYS: None

STRONG PLAYS: Miami +4 New England
Tampa -2 1/2 Carolina (Agrees with a pick of thePole)
Denver--Indy OVER 55 1/2 (Also agrees with the Pole)
    Baltimore - 1 1/2 Cincinnati

REGULAR PLAYS: St. Louis -3 Minnesota
    Atlanta +3 New Orleans
    Pittsburgh -7 Cleveland
    Chicago--Buffalo OVER 47 1/2
    San Francisco -4 1/2 Dallas

NORM'S LATE THOUGHTS: Not much left to pick from on the card. But I do have one late LIGHT idea for you. Looking at the New Orleans-Atlanta game it seemed to me that the linemaker may have made this total number a bit too high. NO's defense was much improved last season and in what should be a pretty competitive game lets try a LIGHT play on:

    Atlanta--New Orleans UNDER 52

    September 6, 2014

    Friday baseball record: 1-0....+$1.00....Season: -$58.05

    Boston -125 Toronto

Here are your consensus late college football plays for Saturday, Sept. 6.

    VERY STRONG PLAYS: None

    STRONG PLAYS: UCLA -23 Memphis
    W. Kentucky +6 Illinois (Agrees with a Pick of the Pole)

REGULAR PLAYS: Louisiana Lafayette -15 Louisiana Tech
    Florida Atlantic +40 1/2 Alabama
    Tulane +9 1/2 Georgia Tech
    Texas +1 BYU
    Hawaii +9 1/2 Oregon St.
There are also two regular strength plays that agree with Picks of the Pole: Toledo +3 1/2 Missouri and Colorado +10 Boise St.

NORM'S LATE THOUGHTS: Opinions vary widely on the Michigan St.--Oregon game. Oregon's struggled of late to cover big spreads and when the Ducks encounter difficulty, as unusual as that is, it's often against "power" teams like MSU. But State never sees anything like the speedball game the Ducks play. MSU's big opponents are teams like Ohio State, Wisconsin and Notre Dame who play similar types of games. The more I studied this game the more the message kept coming through that MSU might get blitzed early here and is not a team equipped to play catch-up football. So:
    Take Oregon -13 Michigan St.

    LATE FOOTBALL CONSENSUS PLAYS

    REGULAR STRENGTH: UTSA +7 Arizona

NORM'S LATE THOUGHTS: Seattle has the talent and depth in the secondary to deal with Green Bay's solid WR corps. But the Packer "D" remains a major question as the 2014 season begins. GB allowed 27 or more points a whopping 10 times last year. To be a true top contender that must be fixed. Beginning tonight we'll see if the Packers have been able to plug that hole. But, until that's proven, I'll side with the Seahawks.

NORM'S LATE THOUGHTS: Notre Dame's off-season has be one long negative story about an Irish "academic dishonesty" case that has now widened to have 5 players suspended. Feisty Rice no longer deserves the role of "doormat" in college football having covered the spread in 15 or its last 19 games. The more I considered this game the more I thought the Owls could hang in under the spread here.

    Take: Rice +21 Notre Dame

Cheers! Be careful. It's going to be a long season!
